Hurley and Contrast Magazine presented the 5th annual The Anti Canvas: a showcase of boardshort art for charity on Saturday December 21, 2013 at Honolulu Night Market: Rogue Christmas

Proceeds benefitted Waves For Water and their efforts in the Philippines with victims of Typhoon Haiyan as well as the Hawaii Foodbank. Entry is free and doors open at 6 pm for the art show and silent auction.

The Anti Canvas: a showcase of boardshort art for charity utilizes “sublimation” to transfer original artwork from 25 local and international artists onto a pair of Hurley Phantom boardshorts. This manufacturing method preserves the integrity and details of the original artwork and designs. Some of the top artists this year include John John Florence, Clark Little, C.R. Stecyk III, Tim Hendricks, Keoni Payton, Aaron Kai, Carl Pao and Dana Paresa. Please find a full list of artists participating in the 5th annual The Anti Canvas: a showcase of boardshort art for charity below.

This unique art event raised over $18,000 dollars for various charities since 2009.

Heres a look at a couple of this years submissions.

#HNLNightMarket Spotlight: Above Reproach & other entertainment

Honolulu alternative rock band ABOVE REPROACH will be playing the Main Stage from 9:30-10:30 p.m. this Saturday. If you’ve never heard of these guys before, here’s a quick intro, in the form of a brief interview with bassist and singer Jake Lenchanko.

Give us a few words to describe the “vibe” of your music.

We have a rock sound that believes that everyone should have a equal voice in this world and that “not one is greater than the other.” We stand up for truth because we’re tired of the lies.

Who’s in the band, and what do they play?

Derek Barbadillo is our heartbeat of a drummer, Seth Lenchanko play the guitar and sings and Jake Lenchanko plays bass and sings.

What has Above Reproach been up to lately? Any albums, new music, shakeups?

We’re in the final stages of recording our debut album, “Radio Interference,” which will be out next year.

What do you think of Night Market and the growth of the Kakaako district?

We heard a lot of great things about Night Market and can’t wait to perform! It’s always great when new venues pop up that are family oriented too.

The Schedule:

JacqRiot: 6-7 p.m. on the Main Stage
jacqriot

Jacqueline Govan, an electro/r&b Los Angeles recording artist working on her first EP, The Riot is Here , brings her energy to the Night Market stage before a set at The Fix Saturday night.
